MARINE CARGO INSURANCE
(Subject to Policy Terms, Conditions, Limitations & Exclusions)

Policy Overview

Marine Cargo Insurance provides protection against loss of or damage to goods and merchandise while they are being transported from one place to another. This includes transit by sea, air, road, rail, or courier, depending on the scope of cover selected. The policy is designed to safeguard businesses engaged in import, export, trading, and domestic or international logistics against financial losses arising from unforeseen transit-related risks.

The coverage typically extends to risks such as fire, collision, overturning of vehicles, sinking or stranding of vessels, theft, burglary, rough handling, and accidental damage during loading and unloading. Depending on the terms agreed, it may also include warehouse-to-warehouse protection,

ensuring goods are covered from the point of origin until final delivery to the consignee. Policies can be arranged either on a single transit (voyage policy) or on an annual open cover basis for regular shipments.

Marine Cargo Insurance can be tailored to suit different types of goods, including raw materials, finished products, machinery, and high-value commodities. The sum insured is generally based on the value of goods, freight, and associated costs such as duties and charges, ensuring full financial protection in case of loss.

However, the policy does not cover all risks. Common exclusions include losses arising from improper packaging, inherent vice or nature of the goods, delay, wilful misconduct, ordinary leakage, and wear and tear. War, strikes, riots, and nuclear risks are also excluded unless specifically included under extended coverage.

In the event of a claim, the insured must immediately notify the insurer, take reasonable steps to minimise further loss, and preserve damaged goods for survey. Supporting documents such as invoices, packing lists, bills of lading, and survey reports are required for claim processing.

Overall, Marine Cargo Insurance plays a vital role in protecting businesses from unpredictable transit risks and ensuring smooth continuity of trade operations.
